The Taxonomy pages were revised on September, 2021 to match the current website appearance. Besides the look, the search functionality has changed. For an overview from the taxonomist, please view this brief video or PDF.

GRIN Taxonomy is a nomenclatural database that focuses on economically important plants from around the world. The database includes all taxa with accessions in the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System, federally regulated species including noxious weeds and endangered and threatened species, and taxa listed in the CITES appendices.

Economic uses, common names, and native distributions are included for many species. There are several specialized datasets as well, including one of rhizobial nodulation reports and one of crop wild relatives and their breeding traits.

The main taxonomy search page displays tabs for searches by family, genus, and species .

In general, enter text in the respective box; include wild cards as desired. Click the Search button to display the results. (The screen indicates that keyboard shortcuts can be used to navigate between tabs.)
